Clear Retainer Instructions
Please adhere to the following guidelines:
- The first two days you should wear your retainers 24 hours a day.
- The retainers can be worn while eating, but this is not mandatory. Replace them as soon as you are finished eating.
- After the first two days your retainers can be worn at night only, EVERY NIGHT!
- If an edge of the retainer irritates your gums, trim it with scissors or smooth it with an emery board.
- Store the retainer in the case we supplied. Do not wrap it in a tissue, it will get thrown in the garbage.
- Keep your retainer and case away from pets. They will eat them.
- If it is lost call us immediately, replacement retainers will be supplied for an additional fee.
- If you miss a night or two wear the retainer full time, and bite down to seat it fully. The teeth may be sore but should realign. If they do not, call the office immediately.
- If your retainer ever comes loose (i.e. you can flip it off with your tongue) call us immediately and discontinue wear.
- Bring your retainers to EVERY appoinment!
Wire Retainer Instructions
Please adhere to the following guidelines:
- You must wear your retainers at all times except during swimming and contact sports unless instructed otherwise.
- You can take the upper retainer off by PULLING DOWN on the hooks on the back of the wire.
- You can take the lower retainer off by PULLING UP on the front loops.
- Never remove your retainers with your tongue. This will cause the wires to snap.
- Keep the retainers clean by taking them off and brushing them every time you brush your teeth.
- Soak the retainers in a solution of one part Listerine, two parts water. This will keep them smelling fresh and bacteria free.
- Never boil the retainers. If they fall in the trash, soak them in 100% Listerine for 24 hours.
- Always store your retainers in your retainer case when they are not in your mouth. DO NOT put them in your pockets or wrap them in a napkin. You will lose or break them.
- DO NOT leave your retainers or retainer cases on counter-tops or night-stands. Retainers are made of plastic and can break. Also, animals will eat your retainers and cases if given the opportunity.
- Your retainers must be with you at each appointment.
